Body of Young Woman Washes Up in Shanghai Harbor
No witnesses despite heavy traffic in world’s busiest port.
Divers recover the body that mysteriously appeared Tuesday morning.

The China Coast Guard was summoned to a grisly scene Tuesday morning as the nude, dead body of a young woman floated within view of the thousands of men and women who call this bustling port their workplace.
No further details have been released by either Shanghai Police or the port authority, but one diver who recovered the body stated that the victim seems to be a young, caucasian woman in her early twenties. The cause of death has not been determined, but the body does not appear to bear the characteristic signs of a drowning death, and several violent, bloody wounds are evident to the naked eye.
Not a single witness has yet come forward who saw any foul play or disturbance. “It’s as if she wasn’t there one moment, and suddenly floating there the next,” one dockworker close to the scene was quoted as saying.
The harbor of Shanghai is the busiest
port container in the world, a point of origin for millions of Chinese-manufactured products that ship to all corners of the globe. It is a hub of activity in this city of over 24 million residents, making the baffling appearance of this victim without notice both inexplicable and all too understandable.
Police are urging anyone having information about the incident to contact Shanghai Police as soon as possible.
