US Citizen Found Murdered in Streets of Chinese City

Unidentified American leaves Guangzhou police baffled

Police are hoping the young woman's strange neck tattoo will be the key to unraveling the mystery.

Commuters in the bustling downtown district of Guangzhou were greeted by a grisly discovery Tuesday morning as the bloody corpse of a young woman was found at curbside near the busy intersection of Zhongshan and Jiefang Roads.

Police have not been able to identify the young woman, but have stated that she appears to be American and in her early twenties. The cause of death has not been determined, but copious amounts of blood stained the body and clothing. It is clear that the woman was murdered and that the crime took place elsewhere with her body only later being placed at the scene. However no witnesses have been found that can attest to how or when this occurred. The body seemingly appeared from nowhere.

Authorities suspect that a large, unusual tattoo on the young woman's neck will be key, not only in identifying the body, but also in apprehending whomever is responsible for her violent death.

Local authorities have alerted Interpol, the American embassy here in

Guangzhou, and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Each year, thousands of runaways and missing persons are reported and often remain unfound. However, the gruesome nature of this discovery combined with the unlikely presence of a young American in this business center of the People's Republic of China make for a most unusual and baffling case—one that suggests a larger spectre such as human trafficking.

Anyone able to indentify the victim or having any information pertinent to her murder is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement authority as soon as possible.
